Kissimmee, the Central Florida community in the shadow of Orlando, is one of a number of Florida towns that have added 5K races to showcase the downtown area. The Kiss-im-Mee 5K Run, named as a gentle dig at those who don’t pronounce the city correctly, takes place on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 a.m. and goes through the historic downtown, past the beautiful lakefront, and through historic neighborhoods.
We chatted with Kissimmee city commissioner Cheryl Grieb about the race, which was inspired in part by her parents’ battles with heart disease. A portion of the proceeds benefits the American Heart Association. Hear our chat on the radio version of The Fitness Buff Show, our radio broadcast partner.
